NovoHydrogen to Bring Green Hydrogen to Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub
December 23, 2024
GOLDEN, Colo., December 23, 2024 —NovoHydrogen is pleased to announce that the Express Ranch Hydrogen project in Oregon has signed a subrecipient agreement to receive initial federal funding and commence activities for the first phase of the project. This initiative is part of the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub (PNWH2 Hub), which includes six sites.
The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) funding will support NovoHydrogen through the advancement of planning, detailed design, environmental permitting, procurement of long-lead equipment and construction of an on-site green hydrogen facility for an industrial customer. The hydrogen facility will be used to decarbonize heavy-duty haul trucks at the site.
Known as Node 5, this site is managed by Express Ranch Hydrogen LLC, a subsidiary of NovoHydrogen. Node 5 plans to produce more than 0.5 TPD of clean hydrogen that will comply with 45V regulations. The green hydrogen will be used for transportation, including heavy-duty trucks. Key components of the Node’s infrastructure will include new dedicated pipelines, above-ground storage, and hydrogen refueling stations for both public and private use.
“We are honored to be part of the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub and are grateful to the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Association and the DOE’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations for their leadership in enabling a clean hydrogen ecosystem across the Pacific Northwest,” said Matt McMonagle, CEO of NovoHydrogen. “This project aligns with Oregon’s decarbonization goals and demonstrates the viability of green hydrogen in reducing the carbon emissions of major sectors, including hard-to-electrify heavy-duty trucks. The milestone marks significant progress in our mission to accelerate the energy transition and support sustainable infrastructure development.”
The Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs) Program, managed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), awarded the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub (PNWH2 Hub) up to $27.5 million in initial federal funding to begin activities for the first phase of the project under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
