BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Building on the strong customer response to their successful collaboration initiated in 2022, today ION Clean Energy (ION) and Koch Engineered Solutions (KES) announced an expansion of their joint offering for technology-advantaged, affordable post combustion carbon capture projects.

This enhanced joint offering brings together industry leading capture technology from ION with proprietary critical mass transfer process and separation equipment from Koch-Glitsch, a Koch Engineered Solutions business.

Through this agreement Koch-Glitsch will include proprietary equipment for ION capture projects which is specifically designed to optimize ION’s process and ensure maximum performance of ION’s transformative carbon capture technology while minimizing the cost and physical footprint required for such a project. The expanded partnership solidifies a crucial part of the equipment supply chain and enables a more accurate design and cost basis earlier in the process, thereby increasing the likelihood for customers’ projects to reach positive final investment decisions in a timely manner and creating a mutually beneficial offering for the carbon capture market.

“Having a partner like Koch Engineered Solutions, with their commitment to excellence in design and innovation, ensures that our customers can truly take advantage of our best-in-class technology, minimize the cost and maximize the value of their carbon capture investment,” said ION CEO Tim Vail. “Building on the efforts of our founder and executive chairman Buz Brown, we take the expansion of our partnership with KES as a huge vote of confidence in ION’s technology and with our increased commercial activity, the marketplace clearly views it the same way. We’re excited about our continued commercial growth and grateful for KES’s support and desire to be part of ION’s future.”

“We believe ION Clean Energy has a groundbreaking carbon capture technology,” said Dan Haycook, President, Equipment Technology & Services Group of Koch Engineered Solutions. “We are thrilled that our mass transfer and separation equipment will play an integral role in unlocking this exciting offering for the carbon capture market.”

The agreement between ION and KES also provides the partners the ability to leverage onsite vessel fabrication through Koch Specialty Plant Services (KSPS), a Koch Engineered Solutions business, whose extensive field fabrication experience and expertise can further de-risk projects on cost, process and constructability performance. Most large-scale commercial plants require onsite vessel fabrication and having an integrated partner with industry leading knowledge and experience can increase confidence in the constructability review and schedule assurance earlier in project phases.

About ION Clean Energy, Inc.

ION was founded in 2008 in Boulder, Colorado and is a worldwide leader in carbon dioxide capture technologies and provider of decarbonized, blue electrons for the electric power industry. The company has been awarded over $85 million in competitive, peer-reviewed U.S. Department of Energy awards to advance its technology and done over 14,000 hours of successful performance testing at facilities that include the National Carbon Capture Center in Alabama and Technology Centre Mongstad in Norway, the world’s largest and most advanced carbon capture test facility. ION’s proprietary carbon capture technology demonstrates transformational performance and is more effective and cost efficient than current commercial solutions to capture CO2 emissions from post-combustion utility and industrial point sources. Most significantly, ION’s technology can capture between 95%-99% of CO2 emissions with extremely low emissions, less waste, unprecedented solvent stability, and low energy requirements. www.ioncleanenergy.com.
